Here’s what we’re looking for from new applicants:
- New applicants are those in their final year of secondary school or completing their post-secondary education.
- A minimum of 50 hours of community service within two years prior to the application deadline.
- A minimum GPA of 3.2 or an 80% average.
- Must be enrolling in a minimum two-year, full-time undergraduate program at a recognized school in Canada or the US.
- The applicant, their parent, legal guardian, grandparent or spouse must be a current Foresters member.
- Applicants must be 24 years of age or under at all times during the 2026 calendar year.
Here’s what we’re looking for from returning candidates:
- Returning candidates are those who have earned or applied for the scholarship in previous years.
- A minimum of 15 hours of community service within one year prior to the application deadline.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 or a 75% average.
- Must be enrolled in full-time studies in the academic year they are applying as a returning applicant in Canada or the US.
- The applicant, their parent, legal guardian, grandparent or spouse must be a current Foresters member.
- Applicants must be 24 years of age or under at all times during the 2026 calendar year.
When to apply
Foresters Competitive Scholarship has one application window. Both new and returning candidate applications are open from:
December 4, 2025 to April 30, 2026
Applicants will be notified of their award status in mid-June 2026.
If selected for a scholarship, recipients must accept or decline the scholarship by the deadline indicated on the acceptance form. If that deadline is missed, recipients risk forfeiting their scholarship.
Scholarship funds are issued by August 31, 2026.

For the purpose of determining eligibility, a "certificate" includes a certificate, policy or annuity issued by The Independent Order of Foresters, or a certificate, policy or annuity issued by Foresters Life Insurance Company on or after April 2, 2008, except that it does not include Foresters Life funeral annuity certificates or creditors' group insurance certificates.
The Competitive Scholarship benefit is administered by International Scholarship and Tuition Services, Inc. (ISTS). Eligible members (including those insured under a juvenile policy who are 18 years of age or turning 18 in the calendar year of the Competitive Scholarship application deadline), their spouse, dependent children, and grandchildren may apply, subject to the eligibility criteria. Foresters Financial member benefits are non-contractual, subject to benefit specific eligibility requirements, definitions, and limitations and may be changed or cancelled without notice or are no longer available.
