Biography

Martin I. Sheerin
Martin is an accomplished financial executive with extensive experience in the insurance and financial services industries. A former CFO of John Hancock Financial Services, Martin has a background in company governance, financial reporting, risk management, and capital management.
Prior to over 15 years at John Hancock, Martin has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary at Aviva Life Insurance. He started his career with Irish Life, a leading insurance company in Ireland. He earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Trinity College, Dublin.
Martin holds designations as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (UK), a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
Martin plays an active role in industry organizations, serving on committees for the American Academy of Actuaries and contributing to non-profits. He currently serves on the board of Boston’s Rian Immigrant Center as Director and Treasurer.
Martin has been a member of Foresters Board since 2025; he is currently a member of the Board’s Audit and Compliance, Fraternal and Risk and Investment Committees.
