New York, NY, November 15, 2016 –The philanthropic spirit is exhibited by Foresters Financial Services, Inc. each year through its work with local communities, but it believes so much more could be accomplished if more people would pitch in to help. So this year, Foresters Financial is challenging others to give back during National Philanthropy Day on November 15 and offers five tips to help them get started.
“There are multitudes of ways to give back,” said Paul Prete, Vice President for Retirement Programs at Foresters Financial Services, Inc. “Whether you make a monetary contribution, volunteer your time to help others, or use your talents to make a lasting impression on people or the planet, everyone can have a direct impact on our society,” he explained.
“At Foresters Financial, we’ve made a firm-wide commitment to serving our communities through a diverse assortment of sponsorships, events and employee volunteer opportunities. While we are dedicated to providing innovative financial solutions to help investors reach their goals, we are also a staunch advocate of enhancing the well-being of the families and communities where we do business,” added Mr. Prete.
Foresters Financial is involved in many local initiatives, including helping young people understand the basics of investing through the Junior Achievement Program, helping to build a new playground in Staten Island, New York to bring a community closer together, and assisting teachers and schools across the country. Additionally, Foresters Financial has partnered with the LGBT community through sponsorship of the Trevor Project (the only nationally accredited suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ youth under age 25) and the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA) Voice Awards, among many others.
People often feel they want to help, but they don’t know how or where to begin, so they don’t do anything. That’s why National Philanthropy Day is the perfect opportunity to make a commitment to help. But, don’t wait until the last minute. Spend some time before November 15 thinking about how you can make a difference in your community or the world.
To help you get started, Foresters Financial created these five giving tips:
- Giving can take many forms, including money, time, resources, ideas, labor, counseling, support, fundraising, donations, etc.
- You can lend your support to large institutions, such as the American Red Cross, international groups, such as Habitat for Humanity, or countless local organizations that focus on education, the homeless, health, the hungry, animals, and many other causes.
- You can choose a cause based on your interest, one that has directly impacted you or your family, one that you feel has the greatest need, or one close to where you live.
- Everyone is busy, but you can serve others, regardless of how much time you have. Many organizations have ongoing needs, but others can use help intermittently, or for a one day event or special project.
- If you decide on a monetary contribution, check the organization’s financial statements to determine how much of the money they collect goes directly toward its programs, so your dollars do the most good.
National Philanthropy Day was proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986 to celebrate the accomplishments that giving brings to our world. If you need further inspiration about giving this Philanthropy Day, consider this quote by Martin Luther King, Jr.—“Life’s persistent and most urgent question is ‘what are you doing for others?’”
