We created the Caring Through Crisis (CTC) grant program to support members who want to help their local communities during COVID-19. And for Mother’s Day this year, that’s exactly what Steve Careccia did. “We tried to think about people who weren’t getting as much attention during the crisis – those who may be suffering in silence.”
Steve connected with a women’s shelter in his community and learned that cases of domestic abuse have increased dramatically during the pandemic. “We told them we wanted to help and that Foresters Financial was involved,” he says. “They were amazed!”
Using the $250 member grant, Steve jumped into action and purchased the fresh fruits, vegetables and halal meat that the organization told him is in high demand. But he didn’t stop there! Mother’s Day is an emotional time for women and children affected by domestic abuse, so Steve included a red rose and a kind note for everyone living and working at the shelter.
“It was Mother’s Day, and we need to appreciate the strong women in our lives,” he said.
More than 1,000 grant applications have been approved for local initiatives like Steve’s. The program is open and accepting applications until August 31. Members now can apply for up to two CTC grants.
