  • Jul 31, 2017

Foresters Financial™, an international financial services provider committed to doing more for families and communities, is offering assistance to its members affected by flooding in Cook, Kane, Lake, and McHenry counties, Illinois.

As part of Foresters commitment to supporting those affected, the following measures have also been implemented to help affected Foresters members and clients through these challenging times:

  • Emergency Assistance: Foresters has enacted the Emergency Assistance benefit to eligible members living in the affected area who are experiencing significant personal hardship as a result of the flooding. Members who are directly affected by the flooding can contact Foresters to receive grants to help with immediate needs.
  • Cancellations and Nonrenewals: Foresters will withdraw cancellations/non-renewal notices issued after July 12, 2017, on in-force policies issued to affected members and will not enforce cancellation or nonrenewal notices to affected members until September 30, 2017.
  • Time Period Extensions: Foresters grants the affected certificate holder an extension of any and all policy provisions or other requirements that impose a time limit for a claimant to perform any act, including the submission of a claim or proof of loss. Such extension shall be for a minimum of 60 days from the last date allowed or required under the terms of the contract or allowed or required by the insurer, or longer if deemed reasonable given an individual consumer’s circumstance.
  • Underwriting: Foresters will provide extensions for receipt of underwriting requirements to applicants in affected counties.

Illinois consumers should note the availability of the Department of Insurance for filing a complaint regarding any disaster-related dispute or issue. Consumers may call the Department of Insurance’s toll-free complaint hotline at 1-866-445-5364, or file a complaint online at: https://mc.insurance.illinois.gov/messagecenter.nsf. Alternatively, you may send complaints in writing directly to Foresters Financial by sending to complaints@foresters.com.

Affected members and certificate holders needing assistance can contact Foresters toll-free at 800-828-1540 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST, Monday to Friday, or e-mail Foresters at service@foresters.com.
