Decade:1870
Caption:
The Independent Order of Foresters is introduced into Canada by Oronhyatekha (Peter Martin) in 1875. As Foresters leader, Dr. Oronhyatekha traveled extensively, spreading the message of fraternalism and increasing membership. By the early 1890s, he had successfully transformed Foresters into North America's leading fraternal benefit society.

Caption:
Foresters erected a 12-story building in Toronto, Ontario, known as the Temple Building. It is considered to be the tallest structure in the British Empire at the time and hailed as the first skyscraper in Toronto. The Temple Building is credited with ushering in a new era of high rise towers that transformed Toronto's downtown core in the late nineteenth century.

Caption:
The Independent Order of Foresters celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1924 at a banquet in New Jersey. Members throughout the world celebrated Foresters Golden Jubilee by staging parades, picnics and other events to mark the occasion.

Caption:
In a practical demonstration of helping others, Foresters established an IOF Easter Gift Fund in 1948. All 8,000 members in the British Isles received a box of food for Easter in 1948.
Decade:1960
Caption:
A new headquarters, called "Foresters House," is erected in Don Mills, Ontario in 1965. The building was constructed by Olympia and York and is an example of modernist architecture.
Decade:1980
Caption:
Foresters has been active in the prevention of child abuse since 1975 when it established the "Foresters Prevention of Child Abuse (PCA) Fund". From 1975 to 2003, this Fund contributed approximately $4.9 million CDN to hundreds of agencies working to prevent child abuse across North America.

In 1990, Foresters became a supporter of Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for children's hospitals across North America.

Foresters partnership with Children's Miracle Network has grown dramatically over the years from Foresters support of the Champions program to becoming the founding sponsor and international underwriting sponsor of the Radiothon program. Over the past 18 years, Foresters commitment of more than $20 million has helped Children's Miracle Network raise more than $275 million for 170 children's hospitals in the U.S. and Canada. In 2008, Foresters became the founding sponsor of the Children's Miracle Network's international expansion to the U.K.
