Purpose of Role:
To perform all segregated funds’ valuation, reconciliation, cash settlements between general and segregated funds. Preparation of all policyholders’ tax returns (T3, T5, NR4, T4A and T4RSP) This role will also participate in the areas of preparing audited financial statements, monthly, quarterly and year end activities and other governmental and statistical reports.
This position is located in our Mississauga Office
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Perform all monthly reconciliation of bank and geneal ledger accounts related to all segregated funds
- Responsibe and ensure all payments of invoices are properly coded by appropriate accounts, departments and properly budgeted for.
- Co-ordinate and follow up with FMO (Foresters – Disbursement) to ensure proper funding of all disbursement by reviewing the daily cheque register and the Royal Bank Disbursement bank account.
- Prepare weekly and monthly unit valuation and ensure unit values are on current basis and accurate in the system (AS #400)
- Responsible for all cash settlements between the general fund and the segregated funds.
Maintain, monitor and ensure all withholding taxes are appropriate and payments are on time.
- Responsible for the preparation of all policyholder’s tax returns
- Prepare all supporting schedules for all policyholder’s taxes (T3, T5, NR4, T4A & T4RSP)
- Assist in special projects, acquisitions, quarterly reporting and year end activities
- Assist in the preparation of audited financial statements, Life 1 and MCCSR.
- Provide assistance related to segregated fund accounting matters to policyholder department.
- Reconcile and maintain all investment gains, losses, dividends, interest and management expenses to ensure the reporting on T3 are correct.
- Provide assistance of preparing all financial and tax materials to PWC in completing all corporate tax returns (Federal, Provincial, capital tax and investment income tax)
- Provide assistance in other activities and back up in the Finance Department.
- Contribute to the improvement of data integrity within financial reporting specifically, and division generally.
- Provide assistance in policy accounting (segregated funds) to the policyholder department.
- Monitor, ensure and follow-up all oustanding withhoding taxes.
- Preparation of monthly journal entries
- Prepare and maintain all schedules of all segregated funds’ activities on a current basis.
- Reconciliation of the general ledger accounts.
- Other assignments as directed by the Comptroller and CFO
Key Qualifications/Competencies:
- 2 - 3 years related experience in a financial institution.
- CGA or CMA - Final year or qualified.
- Proficiency in PC, Word and other applicable systems
- Life insurance experience preferred
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of policyholder's taxation and financial reporting.
