Katharine Rounthwaite
Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Executive Secretary
Kate Rounthwaite was appointed Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Executive Secretary in July 2009. In December 1998, she was appointed Vice President and General Counsel, and became Executive Secretary to the Board of Directors of Foresters™ in 2003.
Prior to joining Foresters in 1993, Kate was a Counsel at Crown Life Insurance Company and at Aetna Canada. In her 31 years of practicing law, Kate has developed expertise in the areas of insurance law, litigation management, employment relations, and corporate commercial law, with a focus on the U.S. and Canadian insurance market place. She earned her Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor at the University of Toronto, and a Masters of Arts in Canadian History at Carleton University.
Kate has served on the National Fraternal Congress of America’s (NFCA) Law Committee since 1998, and served as Committee Chair 2004 – 2007. Kate has been on the NFCA Board of Directors since 2004 serving as chair in 2007 – 2008. She is currently Past Chair of the Board and also chairs the Fraternal Advisory Council. She is a member of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) Committee on Insurance Regulation.
Kate volunteers as a Board member of the Alliance Community Hospice in Toronto. She has fulfilled a variety of other community service roles in the past, such as Chair of her children’s School Parents Association, and Convener of Girls Basketball League for six years. She and her husband, David Lipton, have four children.
