At the core of Foresters are its members, who belong to Branches close to where they live. There are
350 Foresters Branches today in Canada, the United States and United Kingdom. Members vote to elect their own Branch officers who meet with other Branch members on a regular basis to handle all the business of the Branch. These officers voluntarily give their time and expertise for the benefit of all members and their community.
At the next level are the Regional Assemblies, which provide leadership and direction to groups of local Branches. Regional Assembly Delegates to Regional Assemblies are elected from the Branches within their jurisdiction and serve on a voluntary basis.
Next are the Regional Councils and their Area Service Team(s) who are responsible for implementing Foresters mandate of governance and service at the Branch and regional levels. Regional Councils are led by a Regional Council President who presides at all Regional Council and Regional Assembly meetings and who acts as liaison with Fraternal department staff on Regional Council issues.
The third level is the International Assembly. This body governs Foresters. It convenes every four years to elect the International Fraternal President and other International Assembly Officers who comprise Foresters Board of Directors. The next level of Foresters organization structure is made up of the International Fraternal President, who leads the fraternal areas, the Chief Executive Officer and President, who runs the business aspects of Foresters, and the Chair of the Board who leads the Board of Directors.
Working as One
Foresters is structured much like other insurance and financial service providers with one important difference - our marketing, sales and membership services delivery sections work as one with our Fraternal operations to ensure that member's fraternal needs are fulfilled. The Fraternal function also oversees our Branches system and provides support and direction to our volunteer leaders regarding their Branches fundraising and community investment activities.
As with other organizations, Foresters also has business sections devoted to marketing (product development and advertising) and sales, member services delivery (certificate administration, technological support, business process analysis and our member service centre), corporate governance (legal and regulatory compliance), finance, actuarial, risk management, and human resources and communications. Each of these areas is led by a Senior Vice President who is responsible for directing the activities of their group.
