Richard M. Freeborough, FCA

Richard (Dick) Freeborough retired in 2004 from KPMG LLP, where he spent
40 years. His final assignment was as Partner in its Toronto office with
national responsibility for accounting services to the life and property and
casualty insurance industry. Clients of his practice area included ForestersTM,
Kingsway Financial Services, Crown Life, Aetna, Maritime Life, Munich Re,
Swiss Re, Royal Bank, OMERS and Scotia Bank. His major responsibilities
included supervising the provision of audit services to KPMG insurance
clients, disseminating technical information, and liaising with regulators
and industry associations. His many other responsibilities at KPMG
included membership on its Board of Directors; Chairman of the Partner
Development Committee; Group Business Partner; and Personnel Partner, Quebec
Region. Outside of KPMG, he has enjoyed extensive involvement in a number
of professional associations, including membership in the Advisory Committee
to the Superintendent of Financial Institutions of Canada on Life Insurance
(1991 to present); various Committees of the Canadian Institute of Chartered
Accountants dealing with life insurance issues; an advisor to McGill
University’s accounting extension program, as well as a lecturer at the
university. Dick is also a graduate of the Rotman/ICD Directors Education
Program, and is a Director of ACE INA Insurance, the Canadian subsidiary of
ACE Limited, which principally handles commercial property and liability
insurance. Dick’s significant community involvement has included Board
appointments with the Oakville Hospital Foundation, Tafelmusik Baroque
Orchestra and the Oakville Red Cross. He has also served on the Green
Committee of the Mississauga Golf Club. He has supported numerous
fundraising efforts on behalf of McGill University, Bishop’s College School,
Centraide and Red Feather. Dick currently serves on Foresters Board of
Directors' Human Resources & Compensation, and Inspection & Audit
Committees. Dick lives in Oakville, Ontario, with his wife
Diane. They have three children. |
