Christopher H. McElvaine, FSA, FCIA

Chris McElvaine has had a distinguished career in the Canadian life
insurance industry, serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of The
Empire Life Insurance Company in Kingston, Ontario, from 1991-2001,
following two vice presidential roles overseeing Insurance Operations and
Individual Insurance. Prior to joining Empire Life in 1974, he held various
actuarial positions from 1957 to 1975, principally at Mercantile and General
Reinsurance Company and Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company. A
professional actuary, Chris’ 40-year career also included several Board
appointments, including service from 1991-2003 on the Boards of E-L
Financial Corporation, Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company, and
Empire Life Insurance Company. From 1998-1999 he was Chairman of the
Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association. Currently, Chris is
actively involved in Fuel Cell Technologies Corporation as Chair of its
Audit Committee. He is also Chairman of the Jean Mance Foundation of
Kingston, the Industry Appointed Board Member of the Canadian Life and
Health Insurance Ombudservice, a former member of the Canadian Institute of
Actuaries’ Committee on Professional Conduct and Chairman of the Capital
Campaign for St. George’s Cathedral in Kingston. Chris’ community
involvement includes Board appointments with the Hotel Dieu Hospital
(Chairman), Kingston Chamber of Commerce, Kingston Symphony Association and
the Community Foundation of Greater Kingston. Chris currently serves on
Foresters Board of Directors' Investment and Ethics & Governance
Committees. Chris was born and raised in
Argentina. Chris lives in Kingston with his wife Marie. They have four
children and nine grandchildren. |
