Foresters/Unity Life celebrates Diwali!

Brampton, ON, October 19, 2010 – The 4th Annual Foresters/Unity Life Diwali Fiesta held on Sunday, October 17th, 2010 at the Pearson Convention Centre in Brampton, ON included over 8,000 attendees, who enjoyed live music, costumes, traditional Indian food and even pony rides for the kids. Families from the South Asian community in Brampton, Mississauga and surrounding areas witnessed a convention centre filled to capacity at the largest Diwali celebration in the GTA. Grandparents, parents and children had an opportunity to see and hear from Foresters and Unity Life representatives, receive gifts for the children, and danced on stage with members of the Foresters family to the live music of the popular drum group, Dhol Circle.
Foresters, represented by Unity Life in Canada were the title sponsors of the 4th Annual Diwali Fiesta this year as part of their commitment to building strong communities. Unlike other life insurance organizations, Foresters does not have shareholders. Instead, Foresters invests back into their clients, who become members, and the communities in which they live.
This year alone, Foresters has invested $1.5 million to create 20 new playgrounds in Canada and the U.S. Thorn Lodge Elementary School in Mississauga enjoyed its first playground since its inception 40 years ago, and Frank McLoughlin Co-Operative Homes in Brampton has a brand new playground today thanks to a coordinated effort of 200 volunteers from Foresters and the community who erected the play space.
Foresters commitment to families encompasses a wide range of programs which include a North America-wide scholarship program which helps families deal with the high costs of post-secondary education. One such recipient this year, was Shilpa Varghese from Brampton, ON who was awarded a scholarship worth $8,000 and is now attending the University of Guelph studying to become a pharmacist.
Over the next year, Brampton, Mississauga and Oakville can expect to see much more involvement from Foresters in their community, which includes participation in events for the South Asian community, recognizing their valuable contribution to these communities.
